Insights for the 2024 Year of The Yang Wood Dragon

As we wane from 2023, we steadily move closer to February 4th, 2024 to begin a new solar year. For those who follow the Lunar New Year, that begins February 10th, 2024. Besides stepping into a new year, as a whole we are also transitioning into a brand new 20 year cycle referred to as Period 9. I’ll get into the meaning of Period 9 with a separate article. For now, we’ll focus on a base overview of what 2024 has in store in accordance to the Yang Wood (Jia) Dragon (Chen). The Feng Shui insights derive from the five elements theory, trigrams, and Dragon characteristics.
Let’s start with Yang Wood. Yang wood by its own nature promotes leadership qualities, being persistent but also inflexible at times. In regard to the nature of the Dragon with wood element, this type of combo can promote an artistic expression, strong buisness sense, and confidence in taking advantage of opportunities when presented. However, when Dragon is not in a state of harmony it can have an underbelly of aggression, mockery and too much pride.
Dragon by its own nature is Earth element. Due to this in accordance to the five elements theory it creates a ‘destructive cycle’ with wood element, which could translate as increased stubbornness that emits a sense of lessened opportunities to negotiate and compromise. Some of the best lifestyle advice we could all embrace is to adopt healthy emotional and social intelligent practices throughout 2024. Pick your conversations wisely and leave space for compromise when tempered topics of discussion.
I know the introduction to the Dragon year is a bit heavy, but not to worry! The Dragon is also seen as a huge supporter of the arts, which means this energy embraces entertainment, various artistic mediums, musical events, beauty, culture, travel, academics and business pursuits. This helps give you insight into where to involve yourself for leisure and/or work to make the most of 2024. You can also harness the positive qualities of dragon of working hard and being more courages to take on business opportunities to help advance your status.
When looking at general health insights for physical, mental, and emotional well-being, here are some base tips to keep in mind. It will be important to know your emotional triggers and get a handle on them. This could mean being mindful of what you choose to watch, read, and who you spend time around. Embracing daily routines that harmonize your mental health is very important. Meditation, Qi Gong, Yoga, or Tai Chi are great options. Be sure to keep your body moving with regular exercise as health is wealth in 2024.
